There’s a good reason why Indian food is so popular all over the globe: it’s a whole world of bursting flavors and colors. It’s got sour, sweet, savory, and spicy flavors, and the colors and smell are always appetizing. The only thing is, if you aren’t familiar with the different terms and dishes, it can be hard to navigate.

You might have heard about chicken tikka masala, which is, well, chicken in small pieces coated in a mixture of spices. Paneer is Indian cheese, curry is gravy, chana is chickpeas, murgh is chicken, matar is peas, palak is spinach, chutney means condiment, a tandoor is a clay oven, saag is greens, keema is ground meat, the cream is malai, aloo is potato, gobi is cauliflower, and sabzi is vegetable. Simple, right?
