Although all humans are supposed to have freedom of speech, some books have been banned throughout history for expressing ideas that have been labeled “problematic” or just controversial. These books have been banned from public libraries, schools, and even personal use in different countries around the world.

If you’ve read any or all of these books, you might have a good idea of why they have been banned from certain countries that hold different values. For example, George Orwell’s 1984 was banned in the Soviet Union until 1988 for discussing the dangers of a totalitarian regime.
