#12: Amelia Earhart
Year of disappearance: 1937
Year of discovery: never found
Amelia Earhart, an iconic aviator, vanished in 1937 while trying to circumnavigate the globe. Contrary to belief, her disappearance wasn’t immediate; naval ships received her radio messages days after landing on a deserted Pacific island, stranded and low on fuel.

Following the cessation of Earhart’s transmissions, believed to have been pulled to sea, the U.S. Navy conducted aerial searches but found no trace, dismissing the signals as hoaxes without on-ground verification. Evidence now suggests Earhart survived months on the island, with her remains likely consumed by coconut crabs.
